Despena M. Fafalios – Aunt Desi passed away on March 20th. Desi was 91 years old and was cared for by her loving family.
Desi was born into a large family on February 11, 1932 in Pottstown Pennsylvania. She was a loving daughter to her parents, and a protective sister and aunt to her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Despena had a love for learning and could see something done once and know how to do it herself. She loved spending time with her family, and often walked to her sister Irene’s home to spend an afternoon with her.
Going on adventures to the corner store to buy candy and trinkets for her younger family members brought her the greatest joy. She loved children and had the patience of a saint when it came to their every whim.
Aunt Desi lived with her siblings most of her life. In the early years, she lived with her mother, at her sister Penny’s house. When their mother needed more assistance, they moved to her brother, Tommy’s house, where she was cared for by Tommy’s wife, Katina the next 15 years. Once her mother passed away, she moved in with her sister, Pauline until she was unable to care for her anymore. Thereafter, Aunt Desi was in the care of a nursing home, with the assistance of her nieces and nephew. The years spent with her family were filled with joy and love. Her nieces and nephews remember her with fondness for having the biggest, most generous heart. She made quality time for everyone she loved, especially for her siblings, Anna, Pauline, Mary, John, Irene, Tommy, and Penny.
