Marie was a life-long Mayfair resident. Growing up on the 3400 block of Tudor St just a short stroll from all the shops along “The Avenue”. She attended St Matthew’s grade school and, in the fall of 1946, became a St Hubert’s Bambi. Upon graduation in 1950 she entered the workforce as a secretary for a Real Estate office.
The next chapter began when she met Jim Smart, a recently discharged US Navy Corporal, on a blind date. Marie and Jim dated continuously until they married on May 5, 1956. In January of 1958 James Jr. was born and so began Marie’s life as a devoted, loving, full-time mother. Bill was born in ‘59, Maureen in ’60 followed by Rita in ‘64 and finally Carol in 1967. Raising this handful kept Marie busy at home.
In 1973 Marie re-entered the work force and became a “working Mom”, as a medical transcriptionist, in the Radiology department at Nazareth hospital where she worked for 20+ years, until she retired in 1995. Then she enjoyed spending summers with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in Ocean City, New Jersey.
Throughout her entire life Marie stayed connected to the Mayfair community, particularly with her “Sorority Sisters” , lifelong friends from grade school, whom she cared for very deeply. They raised their kids together, had parties together, took trips together and remained in constant contact until this very day.
Marie was loved and will be missed by all…!
