Louis Nemerofsky of Rhawnhurst passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the age of 94.
Lou was born on January 10, 1926 in Philadelphia to Abe and Rose (nee Schmidt) Nemerofsky. Lou was a proud graduate of West Philadelphia High School. After graduation, in March of 1944, he joined the Army Air Corps where he served as a gunner. He was part of the 211th Army Air Forces Base Unit serving in the North Appennines, Po Valley, Rhineland and Central European campaigns. During his service, he earned several decorations and citations, including an air medal with two bronze stars. On July 10, 1953, he married Mary Lou (nee Carver) Nemerofsky. They raised two sons, Marty and John. He loved being a father and enjoyed coaching his sons’ sports teams and later in life enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various sports.
Lou had a passion for bowling, golf and radio-controlled airplanes. He also loved animals, especially dogs. After retiring from working for the City of Philadelphia, he enjoyed volunteering at several animal shelters. Lou was known to always have a bag of dog treats with him at all times. Lou loved talking to people and always had a good story to tell.
Lou was the beloved husband of the late Mary Lou (nee Carver) Nemerofsky, devoted father of Martin A. Nemerofsky (Angela) and John M. Nemerofsky (Holly Tsourides), loving grandfather of Samantha, Stephanie, Danielle and Diana. He was predeceased by his sister Esther Polin and was the beloved uncle of Barbara Cavallo and Chuck Polin.
Family and Friends are invited to attend his Viewing on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, 9:30 a.m. at John F. Fluehr and Sons,Inc. 3301 Cottman Avenue, followed by his Funeral Service 10:30 a.m. Internment Sunset Memorial Park.
