On Thursday, August 26, 2021, Eleanor Catherine Bayer, a passionate critical care nurse, fiercely independent daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 83.

Eleanor was predeceased by her parents Eleanor (nee Vogel) and Francis Bayer, and her 4 siblings: John, Francis (Judy), Marcella (Edward), and Barbara, her niece, Andrea, and nephews Christopher and Peter. A proud and benevolent aunt, she is survived by 14 nieces and nephews and their families from Texas to Philadelphia. Also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Eppie.

Eleanor was most proud of her nursing service at the National Institutes of Health where she worked night shift for over 30 years caring for patients while learning state of the art treatment options. To her nieces and nephews she was “Aunt”--the Audrey Hepburnesque person arriving from D.C. on the train on Christmas Eve at 30th Street Station; the movie star relative who brought them glam packages wrapped in glam paper with gold bows like none other. Along with being a voracious reader of history books and any and all newspapers front to back, Eleanor was a fiercely devoted fan of the Washington Football Club.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 9:15-10:15 a.m. at St. Timothy Church, 3001 Levick Street, Philadelphia, PA 19149. Mass of Christain burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
