Loretta Marie Alderman

Loretta Alderman of Huntingdon Valley, PA passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021 at the age of 73. Loretta was born in Aruba, on September 23rd 1947 to her late parents William “Bill” Otto Weber and Regina Eleanor (McClellan) Weber. She was joined by her sister Geraldine “Gerry” Weber in 1951. Her father’s work in the oil refineries took them to Saudi Arabia for several years and upon return to the US settled in Erdenhiem, PA where she and her sister were raised and attended Mount St. Joseph’s Academy.

Loretta was a lifelong student, completing her undergraduate studies from Chestnut Hill College in 1969 with degrees in Biology and Religion, and moved on to graduate studies at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science where she met her husband Raymond “Ray” Robert Alderman in 1970; the son of the late Rudolph and Adele Alderman of Philadelphia, PA.

Ray and Loretta were married on October 17, 1971 and would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Initially settling in Philadelphia after their honeymoon in Williamsburg, VA they moved to Huntingdon Valley in 1972 where they raised their three children; Kimberly “Kim”, Christopher “Chris” and Jennifer “Jenn”. Initially a homemaker, Loretta longed to continue her education and returned to higher education to earn her Masters degree in School Psychology in 1988 from Temple University.

Loretta had a calling to serve others and was a strong believer in continuous learning. She counseled disadvantaged and underprivileged children and families in Center City Philadelphia as a School Psychologist with and then later in Bucks County at the Woods School until her retirement in. Her desire for continuous learning and service to others propelled her to become a CPR instructor and then a First Aid instructor in the 1990’s. Furthering her education, she later became a certified EMT First Responder and volunteer fire fighter. She was recognized as “Instructor of the Year” from Montgomery County EMS in 1995 and then honored with “EMS Member of the Year” from the Bryn Athyn Fire Company in 1997. The Bryn Athyn Fire Company was her second home where she served and achieved life-long membership status in. After retirement, she was also a regular volunteer at the Bryn Athyn Thrift Store.

When Loretta loved something she committed to it whole heartedly. She loved the Shore and spending time at her home in Cape May, NJ; she was an avid reader of all sorts of genres; enjoyed collecting pens of all kinds; appreciated a good pair of shoes; loved making and collecting jewelry; and felt deeply connected to the sacrifices made by her first responder brothers and sisters during the events of September 11th.

Loretta will be deeply missed by her husband Ray, along with her three children and their spouses, Kimberly (Alderman) Giles and husband Scott Giles of Weymouth MA, Christopher Alderman of Langhorn PA, and Jennifer (Alderman) Marchiano and her husband Joseph Marchiano of Key West FL. Loretta is also survived by her two granddaughters Madison Olivia Giles and Bella Fay Marchiano, as well as her sister Gerry Weber and her husband Edward Gill of Schuylkill Haven, PA. She will be missed by her many cousins, by her brothers and sisters within the Bryn Athyn fire department and her beloved dog Hershey.

A celebration of Loretta’s life will be scheduled for a future date in the spring.
