John “Jack” Robert Rehfuss, of Philadelphia, PA, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where he was admitted for Covid-19. He was 81.
Jack was born on June 2, 1939, to William and Madeline (Janzer) Rehfuss in the Olney section of Philadelphia, PA. He attended Thomas K. Finletter Elementary School, Elizabeth Duane Gillespie Middle School, and Simon Gratz High School’s agricultural program at the Wissahickon Farm School (now Philadelphia High School of Agriculture & Horticulture) where he further developed his life-long love of gardening.

He married Sandra Dover in May 1963 and shortly after was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he spent two years at Fort Benning Army Base in Georgia. He was spared going to Vietnam, returned home and, together with Sandra, had two children. Jack held jobs with the Philadelphia Fire Department, UPS, Funk’s Hauling Service, Rotelli’s Hauling Service, and Ralph’s Wedding Photography. He was passionate about photography, cars, motorcycles and his garden.

In his middle life, he delved into interests like skiing, fine dining, attending the Pennsylvania Ballet and travel, many of these interests shared with his second wife, Anne. In his golden years, he volunteered at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home and shared his home-grown flowers and vegetables with friends, family and neighbors. He was funny, strong-willed and will be remembered as a character with a big heart.

Jack is survived by his children, Richard and Kimberly, his grandchildren, Richard, Jr., Kerri, Melanie Cardona (Justin), and Kristopher, and his brother, W. Paul (Cathryn). He is predeceased by his former wives, Sandra and Anne, and his siblings Loretta, Harold, and Jean Hoffmann (Jerome). Services for Jack will be held at a later date.
