James L. Simpson, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2021 with his family by his side.

James was a lifelong resident of Mayfair, member of Saint Bernard Parish, and graduated from North Catholic Highschool. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Navy, and was proud of his time spent on active duty and many years in the Navy reserves.

James was an active member of many organizations such as:

Ancient Order of Hibernians, American Legion, V.F.W., Tin Can Sailors, Knights of Columbus, Columbus Country Club, President of USS Melvin DD680, and formerly 41st Ward Executive Committee (Democratic Party). At 65, He retired from the Board of Revision of Taxes and began traveling with his “bride.” James valued spending time with his family and friends, but especially with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all.

James was the beloved husband of his wife Mary (nee Ryan) for 61 years; loving father of Jim Simpson (Deirdre), Maureen Collins (Joseph), (late) Megan Simpson-Burke. Devoted grandfather to Aodhan, Breandan, Blaithin Simpson; Joseph, Mallory, Maura, and James Collins; proud great grandfather of Joseph Collins. James is survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, who will all miss him dearly.

Relatives and friends are asked to attend his viewing Saturday June 12, 2021 at St. Bernard Church 7341 Cottage St., Phila, PA 19136 from 9-10am. A funeral mass will begin at 10am; interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association | Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia Help
