Mary Theresa McGonagle

Mary Theresa McGonagle, 39, of Palmyra, NJ & Philadelphia, PA, mother of Kian, passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday April 13, 2021.

As a child, Mary Theresa, was an avid gymnast and loved going with her sister Trish and Friends to Gymnastics. She worked for many years with her mother at Little Learners Day Care and was a graduate of St. Hubert’s High School class of 2000. Mary Theresa later graduated as a Medical Assistant from DVMC. She adored animals, especially her dog Duke, and loved collecting Charlie Bears Stuffed Animals.

Patricia M. McDonald

Patricia M. McDonald, 89, lifelong resident of Mayfair, passed away on Monday April 12, 2021. 

Pat was the loving daughter of the late Johanna (nee Taylor) and Aidan A. McDonald; devoted sister of Johanna McDonald, (late) Clare Diviny (late Joseph), and Mary Rosenhagen; beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. 

Pat was the consummate educator and dedicated 35 years of service to the Philadelphia Public School System, most teaching first grade. Pat was an alum and parishioner of St. Matthew’s along with being a member of their Senior Group. 

Joseph M. Schmidt

Joseph M.Schmidt, 92, passed away in the comfort of his beloved home on April 12, 2021. He was born November 23, 1928 in Philadelphia to his parents Joseph and Helen Schmidt.

He is survived by his 2 children daughter Joanne (Vince) Anthony and son Joseph (Rose) Schmidt. His grandchildren: Vincent Anthony Jr., Jovine, and Bryan (Michele), Kelly (Keith), Krystal, and Joseph Jr. His great grandchildren: Sabrina and Kane, Bryele, Rylee and Mackenzie, Parker and Hannah. Special and beloved friend and companion Kathleen Tiernan and her children, Joseph Tiernan, Kathleen Jr (Bob) Thomas, and "Grandpop" to RJ and Kristen.

Joe Schmidt lived life with intention. He started work as a teenager in factories. He loved sports, history, Movies, politics, music and ballroom dance. He was faithful and devoted to church to a higher sense of God.

George P. Kite, Jr.


George P. Kite Jr., 63, formally from Olney, passed away on Monday April 12, 2021.

George P. Kite, Jr. was predeceased by his parents George, Sr. and Kathryn Kite (nee Martin). Beloved brother of Kathy Sawyer (Steve) and Tom Kite (Mary), uncle to Colin Sawyer; Vincent Feralio (Amy) and Tommy Kite (Kait) and great uncle to Grace and Alaina. He also leaves behind cousins and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Wayne B. Wattenmaker

Wayne B. Wattenmaker, 60, resident of Levittown, passed away on Friday April 9, 2021 after a battle with cancer.

Wayne was the loving son of Jack Wattenmaker and Georgene M. Wattenmaker (nee Camp), both of whom predeceased him.  He is survived by his siblings, Deborah M. Jackson (Donald) and Mark A. Wattenmaker (Patricia); nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Wayne was an avid sports fan. The Eagles and Phillies were his favorite teams.  He loved to drive and as a bus driver he knew the streets of Philadelphia and other places that he traveled.  When he didn’t drive he used public transportation and knew the bus routes without looking at the schedule. He was very good with directions.  He liked television and watching movies.  He could watch Star Trek and Star Wars over and over again.

Nancy L. Weneck

Nancy L. Weneck, 80, resident of Mayfair, passed away on Wednesday April 7, 2021.

Nancy was the devoted wife of the late Hank Weneck; beloved mother of (late) Frances Curcio, John Curcio (Charlotte), and Nanci Weneck (Hank). She was a caring mom-mom to Kelli Curcio (Adam Yorke); Savannah Kearney (Zachary), Nicholas and Mariah Curcio; proud great grandmother of Marley, Adam, Brody, and Daulton. Nancy is also survived by her brother Edward Evans (Carol) and Helene Davis (Dave).

Betty Anne Gibbons

Elizabeth Anne Gibbons (nee Shaner), 84, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Betty Anne worked at the Immaculate Mary Home as a housekeeper/aide, who was delighted to visit the residents daily, and was always up for a good time with her co-workers. She loved the beach and gossiping with neighbors. Betty Anne and her good friend Alice could constantly be found sitting outside having their coffee and an occasional ice cream from Mister Softee, while watching the dogs go by on their walks.

Elizabeth was born in Philadelphia to her parents (late) Mary L. (nee MacGillivray) and Norman Shaner. She was the beloved wife of William Gibbons for 67 years; loving mother of Kathleen Weckesser (late John), William (Patricia), Eileen, Steven, and Elizabeth Mary Gibbons (Robin). Betty was the proud Nan of John Weckesser and Shannon Goetz (Bob); Amber Gibbons and Sean McCloskey (Erin); and Mollie Gibbons; great-grandnan to Zander, Katie, Adam, and Jimmy. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Gilbert (Bob) and is survived by her in-laws Joan, Margie, Mary, Margie and James.

John R. Rehfuss

John “Jack” Robert Rehfuss, of Philadelphia, PA, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where he was admitted for Covid-19. He was 81. 
 
Jack was born on June 2, 1939, to William and Madeline (Janzer) Rehfuss in the Olney section of Philadelphia, PA. He attended Thomas K. Finletter Elementary School, Elizabeth Duane Gillespie Middle School, and Simon Gratz High School’s agricultural program at the Wissahickon Farm School (now Philadelphia High School of Agriculture & Horticulture) where he further developed his life-long love of gardening. 

Cathryn McElvaney

Cathryn McElvaney (nee Carman), born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 2, 2021, peacefully and surrounded by family.

Cathy was the beloved wife of Gary for the past 39 years. She was the loving mother of Brian, Kevin (Megan), and Mary Kate (Patrick), and proud grandmother to Brie, Maura, and Addison. She is also survived by her mother Kathryn, brother Joseph (Linda), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, and predeceased by her father Joe and stepfather Larry.

Cathy was a proud retiree of the City of Philadelphia. She worked as a crossing guard for 35 years, almost entirely on the corner of Cottman and Roland Ave., before she retired in 2012. Cathy was also a devoted animal lover, proud St. Hubert’s alumna, a huge fan of The Beatles and the Philadelphia Eagles, and was rather infamous for her beautiful holiday decorating and love of over-the-top celebrations. She was incredibly devoted to her family and friends and was a fierce defender of those whom she loved. She was always ready to lend her experience and advice to those who needed it, which helped earn her the much-loved nickname “Chatty Cathy.” She will be incredibly missed, and her memory will live on in our hearts forever. We love you, Mom.

Russell A. Lucas Sr.

Russell A. Lucas Sr., 56, of Northeast Philadelphia, passed away on April 1, 2021 after faithfully battling an illness at home among his family.

He was born on December 20, 1964, to Phillip Lucas Sr. and Georganne (Hershey-Ball) Lucas in Philadelphia, PA and was raised as one of seventeen siblings by Sandra (Parks) Lucas. Russell touched the lives of so many people as an Associate Pastor of Faith Tabernacle Congregation beginning in December 2008. Additionally, he served the church in the role of International Secretary for approximately the last three years of his life. Previously, he provided for his family as a Master Carpenter for more than 30 years.
