Leo M John, Sr.

lmjohnFebruary 01, 1923 - June 10, 2018

Leo M. John, Sr. (Sinny), age 95 years young, of Philadelphia passed away on June 10, 2018.
He was the beloved husband of 57 years of the late Olga E. John (nee Marcellino). Loving father of Barbara A. Parfitt (Dave), Michael A. John (Lynne), Paul A. John (Janet), the late Robert A. Breining (Pam) and the late Leo M. John, Jr. (Janine). Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and scores of nieces and nephews.

Sinny was first and foremost a family man. He was jovial, friendly, and outgoing and would engage in conversation with practically everyone, everywhere, anytime, always sure to end in a belly laugh. Make no mistake, he could be cantankerous and would lose his temper quite often, but he was as generous as his heart of gold. He was the epitome of a hustler, working as a huckster, fence installer, waiter (at the old Middle East Restaurant), iron worker, and lifetime junk man. He loved shooting pool, playing poker, hunting, fishing, and spending beautiful weekends with Olga at their home in the Poconos. Sinny devoted thousands of hours of his time over the last 30 years to making homemade olive pit rosaries and crosses, which he sold for donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospital. We will forever remember his smile, laugh and the joy that he brought us all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Viewing Friday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. and Saturday morning 8:45 to 9:45 A.M. at John F. Fluehr & Sons Inc., 3301-15 Cottman Ave. Funeral Mass St. Matthew Church 10:30 A.M. Rite of Committal Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Deer Meadows Retirement Community Benevolent Fund, 8301 Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19152.
