Joseph M. Schmidt

Joseph M.Schmidt, 92, passed away in the comfort of his beloved home on April 12, 2021. He was born November 23, 1928 in Philadelphia to his parents Joseph and Helen Schmidt.

He is survived by his 2 children daughter Joanne (Vince) Anthony and son Joseph (Rose) Schmidt. His grandchildren: Vincent Anthony Jr., Jovine, and Bryan (Michele), Kelly (Keith), Krystal, and Joseph Jr. His great grandchildren: Sabrina and Kane, Bryele, Rylee and Mackenzie, Parker and Hannah. Special and beloved friend and companion Kathleen Tiernan and her children, Joseph Tiernan, Kathleen Jr (Bob) Thomas, and "Grandpop" to RJ and Kristen.

Joe Schmidt lived life with intention. He started work as a teenager in factories. He loved sports, history, Movies, politics, music and ballroom dance. He was faithful and devoted to church to a higher sense of God.

He worked through multiple variations of employment with tenacity from movie theatre manager to Philadelphia park system upkeep and manicure; he loved to cultivate and bring out the beauty in life. He loved his surroundings, his home inside and his lawn, plants, and trees. He created smaller versions of life expressed with model trains and platforms. He believed in the magical, the beautiful and the orderly side of life. He loved precision whether it was the rhythm of a dance step or a clicking railroad. He loved people, especially children; he was a willing helper, a good listener, a teacher and a role model to what is right and just, respectful and pure. He made it a mission to not use curse words, to not smoke or drink and to walk several miles each day. He had charisma, moving through life with wonder and precision. He was charming and yet humble, gracious and kind. He loved showmanship but also respected those of uniforms. He was a combination of Liberace, Babe Ruth, Gene Kelly, and a gentle helper all rolled into one.

He loved his children, and others' children and he truly lived the role of the Best Dad ever. He will be sorely missed by so many that he touched with his awe and special ways toward all of us...If you knew Joe Schmidt, then you knew he gave you just a little bit of magic, beauty, and order, faithfulness and grace...you felt special in his presence... because you were, with him.
