Theodore R. Fluehr, Funeral Director, lifelong resident of Mayfair, passed away in his 87th year on Tuesday May 25, 2021 with his family by his side.
Ted was the beloved husband of Joyce M. Fluehr (nee Ciavatto) for 48 years; loving father of Theresa D. Vogel (Carl), Theodore R. Fluehr, Jr. (Dianne), and (late) Ernest P. Fluehr (Kimberly). He was a devoted grandfather to Austin Vogel; Ryan and Joseph Fluehr; Dominic and Anthony Fluehr. Brother of Sue Ziegler, and the late John F. Fluehr, III, Lawrence F. Fluehr and Richard J. Fluehr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was the son of John F. Fluehr, Jr. and Roselene(née Gerhard). After graduating from North Catholic High School and Temple University Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Ted, along with his brothers followed their grandfather and father into the funeral business established in 1898. During his early years as a funeral director, he served his country as a member in the United States Army. Ted served his community as a funeral director for 64 years and would go on to be the supervisor of John F. Fluehr & Sons funeral home, until his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Optimist Club of Mayfair, and many other organizations.
Ted had many hobbies and was a skilled craftsman. As a child, Ted spent his summers at the Columbus Country Club on the Delaware River. This prompted his lifelong passion for the river and boating where he served as a past President and is still a member of the club today.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday June 4, 2021 at his home, John F. Fluehr & Sons, 3301 Cottman Ave., Phila, PA 19149 from 8-10:15am. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Matthew Church, 3000 Cottman Ave., Phila, PA 19149 starting at 11am. Rite of Committal to follow at St. Dominic’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be made to the St. Matthew Sanctuary Fund at the above address.
