Mildred T. Izzi, “Millie” age 90, a resident of the Mayfair Section of Philadelphia for the past 46 years died on July 1, 2023. She was the devoted wife of the late Albert P. Izzi for 66 years until his death in 2017.
Born on October 6, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Contino and the late Mary Mezicco Contino.
She graduated from St. Hubert’s High School in 1951and was a member of St. Matthew’s Parish.
When “Millie from Philly”, as her friends called her, was 18 years old, she began her long career in the hospitality industry as a restaurant server. She landed her first job at the famous Ed Zaberer’s in North Wildwood, NJ. Her 35-year career as a server was with The Country Club Diner Restaurant in Northeast Philadelphia. She was featured in the restaurant section of the Philadelphia Newspapers as one of the top servers in the Philadelphia area. At the age of 74, Millie started, an 11 year career, as a ticket agent on Morey’s Pier in Wildwood, NJ. She cherished the time she spent working at both locations.
Millie was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking, cleaning and interior decorating. She enjoyed her time watching television and was fond of the Cooking Channel, Jeopardy, Turner Classic Movies, and the Hallmark Channel. She has a knack for remembering the names of actors in older shows and movies. Her other interests were reading, knitting and ceramics. She was also an amazing dancer and it was always entertaining to see her and Albert clear the floor.
She was a member of St. Matthew’s Parish.
She is survived by her loving children and their spouses: George and Lynn Izzi, Karen and Larry Badgerow, Mark and Denise Izzi, Christopher and Joanna Izzi and Lisa and Randy Ragland; twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and sister, Rita Foss. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Cashmere “Archie” Contino and John Contino sister, Mary Flora.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 31, 2023, John F. Fluehr & Sons, 3301 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
