Regina "Jean" Sawyer

Regina "Jean" Sawyer

Regina “Jean” Sawyer, nee Cavanaugh, passed suddenly at home on July 1, 2024. She was 98 years old and a lifelong Philadelphian.

She grew up in a boisterous, loving family, and is preceded in death by her seven siblings (Fran, Don, Nan, Kathy, Agnes, Dick, and Eileen) and her parents (Ann and Francis Cavanaugh). She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Walter Sawyer, their five children and spouses (Steve and Kathy, Dave and Vicki, Anne and Dave (Oakes), Don and Sue, and Bob and Jennifer), 12 grandchildren (Tim, Kristiann, Joanna, Joe, Paul, Susie, Dan, Tyler, Carolyn, Rory, Rachel, and Colin) and 7 great-grandchildren (Emmett, Milo, Jonah, Bear, Ollie, Liam, and CeCe). She was intelligent, quick-witted, loving, and strong. She was a shrewd bridge player.

One of her great loves was her family, both her children and her siblings. Even at 98, she was still sending birthday cards with a gift inside. Another love was the Jersey shore. As a child, she was one of the “shoebies,” taking the train from Philly with some food and a bathing suit tucked inside a shoebox. When she had a family of her own, she made trips to the shore and her parents in Wildwood Crest an annual event. These little vacations were such a memory maker that her children carry on the tradition to this day. With her quick smile and gentle wit, Jean made her world a better place.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jean's viewing  from 9 AM to 10 AM, followed by a mass, on July 8 at St. Bernard’s Church (Cottage & Bleigh St). Instead of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bernard’s Church or Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls.
