John M. Briggs, formerly of Wynnewood, PA and Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024 at Waverly Heights in Gladwyne, PA from complications due to heart disease.
John was predeceased by his parents, John Briggs III and Rita M. (Weeks) Briggs of Philadelphia, PA. His brother, David A. Briggs, of Gainesville, FL, also predeceased him.
John graduated from Father Judge High School in 1968 and Lehigh University in 1972, where he was a member of Theta XI.
He was a partner in the accounting firm of Tait Weller and Baker and a founding partner of Briggs Bunting and Dougherty (BBD LLP). John served as a director on several boards including Healthcare Services Group, Inc. He was active in the Union League of Philadelphia, the Athenaeum of Philadelphia, Sons of the American Revolution, the Susan B. Komen Foundation, Planned Parenthood of Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
John will be remembered by all for his intelligence, generosity, integrity, charm and wonderful sense of humor.
There will be a gravesite service at the Oakland Cemetery, Adams Ave. and Ramona Ave., Philadelphia, PA on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 10:30 AM.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:30 PM at Union League Liberty Hill in Lafayette Hill, PA. Friends and family are invited.
Donations can be made in John’s honor to the Waverly Heights Foundation, Employee Appreciation Fund, 1400 Waverly Road, Gladwyne, PA 19035 in recognition of the patient, kind and professional care the staff provided to John every day at Waverly Heights.
