Mary was a graduate of St. Peter’s Business School, her education there laid the foundation for a varied and fulfilling career. She took pride in her work with the SPCA, fostering her love for animals and commitment to community service. Mary met the love of her life, Joseph E. Loyden, at a New Year’s Eve party and married not long after in September of 1955. Mary and Joe went on to have four beautiful children, Joseph, Mary, Mark and Thomas. She was an active volunteer at St. Jerome’s Catholic School where she served as a lunch mother and library aide, as well as at the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Red Cross. Mary also worked for many years at Lock’s Gun Shop. In her later years, Mary loved to travel, read, and spend time with her grandchildren. Although her favorite hobby was playing the penny slots at the casino. She also continued into her 90’s to prepare lunch and dinners for Meals on Wheels for St. Jerome’s Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, and two sons, Mark and Joseph. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Godfrey (Bill), and Thomas, as well as her five grandchildren, Denise Loyden, Joseph Loyden, Kevin Godfrey, Timothy Loyden, and Sarah Boyd, and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Southampton on Saturday, November 16th, 2024. Viewing from 9:30-10:30am and mass to follow. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
